Activity 2: New Words & Phrases 🗣️ (Vocabulary)

Here are some important words and phrases for checking into a hotel!

1. Reservation: An arrangement to have a room kept for you at a hotel.

Example: "I have a Reservation under the name Smith."

2. Check-in: The process of arriving at a hotel and getting your room key.

Example: "What time is Check-in?"

3. Reception / Front Desk: The main desk in a hotel where guests check in and can get information.

Example: "Please go to the Reception to check in."

4. Room Key / Key Card: A special card or key that opens your hotel room door.

Example: "Here is your Room Key. Your room is number 305."

5. Fill out a form: To write your information on a paper, like a registration card.

Example: "Could you please Fill out a form with your details?"

Activity 3: Reading - Checking Into a Hotel 📖

Read this story about a family checking into their hotel.

The Lee family arrived at the Sunshine Hotel after a long journey. They went straight to the Reception, also called the Front Desk. Mr. Lee told the receptionist, "Hello, we have a Reservation under the name Lee." The receptionist smiled and said, "Welcome to the Sunshine Hotel, Mr. Lee! Yes, I see your reservation here for two nights." She then asked Mr. Lee to Fill out a form with their names and address. It was a short registration card. After he completed it, the receptionist explained, "Check-in is officially from 2:00 PM, but your room is ready now." She handed him two Room Keys, which looked like credit cards. "Your room is number 410 on the fourth floor. The elevator is just to your left. Enjoy your stay!" The Lee family thanked her and were excited to finally go to their room and relax.

Let's pretend! One person is Sarah (Guest), and the other is David (Receptionist).

Sarah (Guest): Good evening. I'd like to Check-in, please.

David (Receptionist): Good evening! Welcome. Do you have a Reservation with us?

Sarah (Guest): Yes, I do. The Reservation is under the name Sarah Chen.

David (Receptionist): Let me just check that for you... Yes, Ms. Chen, for a single room for three nights. Is that correct?

Sarah (Guest): That's right.

David (Receptionist): Wonderful. Could I please see some ID, and could you Fill out a form, this registration card, for me?

Sarah (Guest): Certainly. Here's my passport, and I'll fill this out now.
